I am so excited to share a deeply personal and professional milestone with you all, I have officially qualified as a Sound Bath Practitioner. This journey has been both enlightening and transformative, and I am so excited to now be able to offer sound healing as part of my services within both community and workplace wellbeing sessions.
But what exactly is sound healing, and why has it been practiced for centuries across cultures?
The use of sound as a healing tool is as old as humanity itself. Ancient civilisations across Egypt, Greece, India, Tibet, and indigenous cultures around the world have used chanting, drumming, gongs, and singing bowls to bring about healing and altered states of consciousness.
Pythagoras, the ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician, was one of the earliest Western figures to explore the concept of healing with sound. He believed that music could be used as medicine, calling it musical medicine and used harmonic frequencies to treat ailments of the body and soul.
Plato and Aristotle also recognised the power of music and vibration to influence the emotions and behaviours of people. In Eastern traditions, sound has long been linked to spiritual growth and physical balance from the mantras of Hinduism and Buddhism to the powerful resonance of Tibetan singing bowls.
Modern science is now catching up with what ancient wisdom has always known, sound has the power to heal.
At the heart of sound healing are two essential concepts, resonance and entrainment. Resonance occurs when one vibrating object causes another to vibrate at the same frequency. Just like a tuning fork can cause another fork to vibrate across a room, healing instruments like crystal bowls, gongs, and chimes can resonate with the natural frequencies of your body, encouraging harmony and balance.
Entrainment is the process by which rhythmic patterns synchronise biological rhythms. When you’re immersed in a sound bath, your brainwaves begin to entrain or align with the frequency of the sound shifting you from the fast-paced Beta state (alert, problem-solving) into more restorative states such as Alpha (calm, relaxed awareness), or Theta (meditative dreamlike).
This shift is not just soothing, it directly supports the nervous system, especially the parasympathetic branch, our rest and repair mode.
Understanding how the nervous system works is crucial for overall wellbeing. The vagus nerve, the longest cranial nerve, plays a central role in regulating the parasympathetic nervous system. A well toned vagus nerve promotes better digestion, reduced inflammation, improved emotional regulation, and deeper states of rest.
Sound healing directly influences vagal tone, low frequency vibrations and gentle harmonic sounds stimulate the vagus nerve, encouraging a shift from “fight or flight” into a state of deep relaxation, where healing can occur.
This not only supports physical health but also helps with conditions like anxiety, depression, insomnia, and chronic stress.
Crucially sound baths support your wellbeing across all levels of your being:
Mentally, sound baths can enhance focus and mental clarity, reduce anxiety and repetitive thoughts, and promote more restful, rejuvenating sleep.
Emotionally, they help release stored emotions and unresolved trauma, create a deep sense of inner peace and balance, and build greater emotional resilience and self-regulation.
Physically, sound healing reduces muscle tension and pain, supports healthy immune function and circulation, and can provide relief from chronic conditions such as migraines, fatigue, and stress-related disorders.
Spiritually, the experience can guide you into deep meditative states, heighten your intuition and self-awareness, and help foster a stronger connection to your inner self and higher consciousness.
As part of my commitment to holistic wellness and my desire to share the importance of whole-person wellbeing, sound healing will now be integrated into both my community and workplace sessions. Whether you’re looking to relax, reset, or reconnect, sound baths are a beautiful complement to your wellbeing and healing journey.

“We are slowed down sound and light waves, a walking bundle of frequencies tuned into the cosmos. We are souls dressed up in sacred biochemical garments and our bodies are the instruments through which our souls play their music.” – Albert Einstein –
