Menopause: A New Beginning, Not an End

Woohoo….it’s time to celebrate, this month, I officially enter menopause.

Twelve consecutive months without a period. A milestone that society has historically marked with stigma, fear, or shame, but I’m here to mark it with power.

As a health and wellness coach, and a women’s health advocate, I feel compelled to share this moment, not just to acknowledge the biological transition, but to challenge the outdated narratives that continue to define it.

For too long, menopause has been painted as the end of a woman’s vitality. A message subtly (or not so subtly) delivered, “You’re past your best-before date”. You’re no longer relevant because your reproductive capacity has retired.

Let’s be clear, menopause does NOT mean you’re fading into the background. It does NOT mean you’re no longer a contributor to your family, your community, or the world.

If anything, menopause is a rite of passage into your POWER.

It’s about Enlightenment. Empowerment. Evolution.

It’s a moment to embrace your wisdom, your experience, and your authenticity. To stop shrinking and start shining. To shed what no longer serves you and step fully into a life led by purpose, presence and self-love.

The journey through perimenopause (for me, about 6 years) wasn’t without its challenges. However, it was one of the most profound periods of growth and transformation I’ve experienced.

Here are some of the things that helped me navigate it with grace, strength, and intention:

Lifestyle Adjustments that Honoured My Needs

I tuned in deeply to what nourished me and what drained me. I chose more of what helped me thrive:

  • Whole, nourishing foods that supported my energy and hormonal balance
  • Movement that felt good, not punishing
  • Prioritising rest and recovery
  • Limiting alcohol and stimulants that caused more harm than good

Spirituality & Inner Connection

I leaned into practices that deepened my connection to self, meditation, journaling, nature walks and quiet reflection. These anchored me and helped me trust my body, even as it changed.

Strong Social Ties

I surrounded myself with people who got it. I made time for meaningful conversations and safe spaces where we could share, cry, laugh, and celebrate our journeys.

Letting Go of the Old Rules

I gave myself permission to evolve beyond who I thought I should be. I stopped apologising for needing rest, for saying no, for putting myself first. That shift alone changed everything.

A Time of Rebirth, Not Decline

If you’re approaching or currently in menopause, know this, you are not defined by a phase of your biology, but by the whole of your being. It isn’t defined by age or what society says either, for that matter.

This time of life is sacred. It can be a portal into deeper self-awareness, radical self-acceptance, and aligned living. It’s a time to ask “What brings me joy?”, “What do I want to create next?”, “What kind of life will I design from this place of wisdom?”

Let’s reclaim menopause, not as an ending, but as a bold, brilliant beginning and make this the best chapter in this thing called life!

With love and power,
